My Child Missed Picture Day. What Do I Do?

3 min read Updated August 2026

If your child misses picture day, don't panic. There are usually still options for having their school portrait taken.

If your child was absent, the first step is to contact your school and ask when the missed photo day is scheduled. Most schools we work with offer a separate day for students who were absent on the original picture day.

If your child is unable to attend the missed photo day, or if your school does not offer one, please contact Iron City Studios. We'll be happy to discuss scheduling an appointment at our studio.

What if I don't like my child's picture?

This is one of the most common questions we receive.

Most schools do not offer a general retake day for students who simply want a different portrait. Every school has its own policy, but many choose not to schedule retakes because it requires students to miss additional class time, and coordinating retakes through hundreds of students can be challenging.

If you're unhappy with your child's portrait, we encourage you to contact us. In many cases, we can schedule a studio appointment where we have more time and flexibility to create a portrait you'll love.

Our studio is also an excellent option for students who:

  • Need a quieter environment
  • Benefit from additional time
  • Have special needs
  • Simply feel more comfortable outside of the busy school setting

If you're unsure which option applies to your school, give us a call. We'll be happy to explain your school's process and help you determine the best next step.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: My child was absent on picture day. Can they still be photographed?

A: Yes. Contact your school to find out when the missed photo day is scheduled. If your child can't attend that day, contact Iron City Studios about scheduling a studio appointment.

Q: My child doesn't like their school picture. Can they have it retaken?

A: Every school sets its own policy, but most schools we work with do not schedule a general retake day for students who simply want a different portrait. If you'd like another opportunity for your child's portrait, contact us to discuss a studio appointment.

Q: My child has special needs. Can we come to the studio instead?

A: Absolutely. Many families choose a studio appointment because it provides a quieter environment and allows us to spend more time with each student. We're happy to work with you to create a comfortable experience.
